ABOUT PAPER CRANES CHILDREN'S FOUNDATION

Paper Cranes Children’s Foundation is an Australian charity, established in early 2023 with a purpose to provide support to children and young people with profound physical disabilities, complex health needs, life-threatening and life-limiting conditions, as well as those requiring palliative care.

Paper Crane Has Become a Universal Symbol of Hope and Resilience

Paper Cranes are origami birds that symbolise hope, love and healing.

Origami folding tradition is originated from Japan and have deep roots in history and folklore. Folding origami paper requires patience and precision, people fold paper cranes during difficult times , grief or personal challenges with the believe that there is a hope for better days ahead.

Beyond Japan, the paper crane has become a universal symbol of hope and resilience. Many of you are probably familiar with the story of Sadako Sasaki, a Japanese girl who was two years old when the atomic bombing of Hiroshima took place during World War II. A victim of the war, Sadako soon developed leukemia. At age 12, inspired by the legend of the Senbazuru crane began folding origami cranes with the goal of making 1,000. She folded 644 before in her death. In her honor, her classmates completed the 1,000 cranes and she was buried with them.

Sadako’s story gained widespread attention, and her legacy continues to inspire movements of compassion and solidarity. Paper cranes have since been folded by countless individuals and groups around the world as a gesture of support and encouragement for children battling illness.

While we are developing our services, we have been folding paper cranes for a while and giving them to families with children that are fighting big battles as a gesture of compassion, honour and loyalty.
